A little backstory:
In the middle of a livestream, a scammer posted some cryptic scam crap in chat. It's constantly happening to me in ALL forms, whether it's Discord, Twitter (70% of my "followers" are graphic design/marketing scammers), etc. I can spot them from a mile away.
I banned them and tried to brush it off and what not but it bothered the hell out of me, which led me to stop reading the article I was in the middle of indulging in with my audience.
That anger led me down a rabbit-hole of epic proportions.
It's insane to think that 2022 was the year with the HIGHEST amount of scams in the US, with a whooping $8.8 BILLION DOLLARS (yes...you read that right) in loss in just that one year. Whether it's Romance Scams, Online Scams, Phone Scams...and now adding to that...a KRAKEN called AI TECHNOLOGY SCAM.
Listen...it's bad enough we have telemarketers calling our phones & companies selling our data for FINANCES (in the middle of an inflation, might I add), as if our privacy were cattle in a dairy farm being sold to the highest bidder.
Now adding to that the fact that some random person can record your voice saying one word and turn it into a complete paragraph AND use that to scam you. Scammers will also be able to deep fake a video of you and use it as leverage to blackmail you into giving them all your money (not unheard of).
Innovation is key to the improvement and survival of us human beings, but the question must be asked...what will we do as a society when the same innovations created are now being used against us?
In this case, scammers are using it to rob us blind of our hard-earned money.
Do you know who are the most vulnerable to all these scams? Look at this graph below:
Yup...our elderly citizens. The most prone to falling for it and losing the most money, but you know what's interesting? 19 YEAR OLD AND UNDER ALSO GET SCAMMED.
